Our Silo Cleaning Service
We clean silos and hoppers using a pneumatic method that is harmless and safe.
Silo cleaning and why it’s important
Ensuring that your silos are clean is the key to making sure they are functioning at their full potential.
A build up of material over time can lead to clogging or a complete blockage, preventing the flow of materials, be it cement, grain, flour, chemicals or any other material.
Blockages can delay production and the silo will be running at less than optimum.
Of course, it adds unnecessary cost to a job too, not to mention stress and potential penalties if production is delayed.
Silo cleaning is ideally done at regular intervals, depending on the product, it may be a minimum of once a year, others, 3 or 4 years.
This is particularly the case if they are being used to store human foodstuff or animal feeds as it ensures mould doesn’t build up, and that the contents are kept as fresh.
There are a number of ways of cleaning a silo and a host of tools available to carry that out, all of which we’ll explain. However, there is another incredibly important aspect to consider – so important we’ve decided to address it first. And that is health & safety.
Cleaning a silo can be a very dangerous job, and it is vital that those who carry it out are fully trained opterators.
Bin Whip Method
Bulk Industrial Cleaning has developed our very own tried and tested dual whip. Operated by air, the whip head cuts through materials like butter, reducing hours of cleaning by up to 2/3rds.
Using air supply means the whip can be operated in most environments safely without contamination or damage to the silo.
Where possible, we set up the crane and guide the whip head into the position to minimise the cleaning time required.
Silo Cleaning Methods
How you clean a silo often depends on what it is being used to store and which part of the silo you want to clean. That said, the main methods are Air Hose slow whipping or using a Bin Whip device.
Silo hose whip
A whip is used to remove material build up or blockages that are impacting on silo/hopper performance. Pneumatically operated, a hose whip is a relatively successful and a portable piece of equipment.
Hose Whips can be inserted into a silo from the top, they don’t require technicians to work inside the silo. Ideal for removing buildups such as grain, flour, salt, sugar, coal, ores and cement powder, recovering lost capacity and enabling maximum flow rates.
Material loosened by the hose whip simply falls to the bottom of the silo to be removed in a conventional way. Hose Whips are designed not to damage the interior of the silo, they are an effective solution for both a health & safety and silo maintenance points.

Types of Silo Blockage?
There are numerous types of silo buildupds, and not all will be the same. Environments like temperature, moisture buildup, cracks, holes, and many more things can cause a silo to block.
